19 week update

The appointment went fine. I discussed the hospital u/s with the nurse and the doctor. There's not much they can do about it at this point (and really, there's nothing that I want done) but it did net me an extra-long u/s at the office.

The baby looks fine, likes to move, and is stretched out length-wise (transverse) making it difficult to zoom in and get the between-the-legs shot.

Doctor: I don't think I see anything between the legs... (keeps looking) ...well, maybe, ... (keeps looking) sorry, I'm just not going to be able to tell you today (keeps looking)

Twirl: That's ok. We'll find out eventually, I suppose.

Doctor: I'll give you some warning. I'll look again.

I believe the doctor has now taken this as a personal challenge (maybe it's a man thing. or a doctor thing, but he seemed pretty determined!) I was glad that he made a genuine effort for me, which is all I would have wanted from the tech.

P and I are considering naming the baby "Neutral." ha.

This makes three ultrasounds now where we could have potentially seen gender but haven't. P's mother has been poised next to the phone with her car keys and credit card in hand for months now waiting to shop. It's not all about shopping, of course, I'd also love to stop calling it "IT."

In related news, my placenta has not moved (even though the ute is growing appropriately) and I am still on restrictions/pelvic rest to include housecleaning, exercise, and sex.

I'm so bummed out! I was hoping you'd have a post with the sex in it. I'm sorry. When do you get to go back in? Glad to hear the baby is fine, that's wonderful news!

Thanks for the info on Baby Bargains. I'll look for it next time we're at Borders.

I know it's not supposed to matter. It's all about the baby being healthy, right? And a lot of people enjoy the surprise, but I'd be so anxious to find out if I kept getting teased with the info like you are. You're probably more mature and wise than I am, though.

Ever since we found out the sex, people like to tell me about friends who were told one thing only to be surprised at the delivery. Nice. I keep staring at baby's butt shot.

Sorry about the "pelvic rest." That sounds so genteel.

glad everything is healthy. bummer not to find out the gender. of course it doesn't *matter* which it is, but it's nice to be able to envision the future a bit. sorry about the placenta, too. hang in there!

Maybe your baby is just shy - I wouldn't want some strange doctor of my Mum's loking at my privates ;)

Glad everything is healthy though!

No fair! See, this is my beef with the infertility gods. If one shall be forced to wait an unexpectedly long time for a pregnancy, then once that pregnancy occurs, she should sail through with things as perfect as possible. Including being able to see the baby's "bits" in order to plan ahead.

Dang it to heck.

I'm glad (s)he is growing and active and looking good, though. Despite h(er/is) shyness.

Bummer also about the pelvic rest. But at least you don't have to clean!!! (or are you one who likes to clean?)

Anyway. Good to hear from you. I can't believe you're already halfway there. (!!!!!!!!!!!)

yahoo on the housecleaning! sorry about the rest of it. very glad your doc made such an effort though. they usually hate to not be able to answer something, so i bet he'll figure it out for you eventually. maybe this will mean you'll get lots of extra scans?

Well, I'm still sorry about the hospital u/s, but I'm glad that your doctor responded appropriately, and that he tried o hard to make it up to you.

Also very sorry that the placenta hasn't budged, but hooray for no housecleaning!
